Review:

The book itself only took me around 3 hours to read in full and I can openly admit that it was 3 hours that I was truly never going to regret spending. Right from the outset the book had me griped. Full of action and detailed to perfection I quickly fell in love with Risen.

A nameless man who indeed rises from the dark with only two pieces of knowledge to his name is forced to protect himself from those who are after his blood by any means necessary. Killing his way into a danger free few hours never seems to last too long in this book. There is never a moment where what this man is doing becomes irrelevant.

On his journey to find answers, the man meets a homeless man and after gaining some information about where he is, befriends him and they spend the remaining story together, taking this journey for answers together.

Throughout the book we see them gain trust in each other, the homeless man speaking of his past life whilst the nameless wanderer speaks what little truth he knows.

Overall the book was gripping and perfectly written. Full of action and a perfect amount of gore and swearing for me. I can not wait to what M.T.Miller has in store next. I do recommend this book to anyone who likes a little blood and loves post apocalyptic action/ adventure with a few supernatural elements and pinches of black humour. This book is gory yet funny and has a rating of 5/5 from me.

Positive Headline - A Touching Tribute

We had to put my dog of 16 years down yesterday, but before we did we recreated our favourite photo with him

Its a well known fact that humans do outlive their dogs but one family faced the inevitability with grace and made sure the memories they had with this dog would live on forever via a very heart touching tribute.

A Reddit user who posts as Weezabeen, shared this image on the site last Thursday with the caption explaining it. "We had to put my dog of 16 years down yesterday, but before we did we recreated our (favourite) photo with him."

The photo showed above at the start of the post is the photos by comparison, but the sisters took this photo sporting near the same expressions and clothing and so far has been viewed over 1.8 million times.

There are other known moving tributes to pooches, like photographer Maria Sharp's choice of a photo memorial of her dog Chubby, during his final days as well as an anonymous puppy owner who left a box full of tennis balls on a beach so that other hounds could enjoy the toy that gave his 4 legged friend joy.

Review

Daniel emailed me earlier this month asking for an honest review of Blackspoon. I was instantly interested in doing so and so on enough I found myself reading it, finishing it in two days. I don't want to spoil any part of the story for anyone if you're going to give it a read so I do apologise if the review is very short.

Blackspoon is a pulp crime thriller about a young RAF officer who is coerced into smuggling heroin back from the war in Afghanistan. I must say I was really caught up in the book when it kicked in, thoroughly enjoyed the fact that as soon as you read the first page, the story has kicked in and there is no hesitation in getting the story set up and started.

I cant really say what I was expecting from this book, I just don't know what I was expecting but with that said I can say I wasn't disappointed with it.

The main character Charlie smuggles un cut heroin back from Afghanistan after the deal was set up by military police who gained him safe passage. Once the deal is done and the story begins to unravel he becomes understandably paranoid.

I have to say I wasn't expecting several things that happened in the book, I guess I was kind of expecting the story to go smoothly and well I was clearly extremely stupid to think that would happen. The story is very face paced but as the reader you'll always be able to understand what's going on even if you do get momentarily confused like I did on maybe 2 occasions (that was mostly because I was so into finding out everything will happen that I was reading it very quickly.)

I must say that I would recommend it to anyone who likes very fast paced books and is able to keep up with that sort of thing. also a 4/5 overall and a really great read even though its not in the genre i would usually read. The cover of the book I've seen is quite clever and I actually love it.

Lets Talk About Mental Health

"4-10% of people in England will experience depression in their lifetime." To put that into perspective, England has a population of around 64,949,051 according to statistics from 2015. That means, based upon that figure between 2,597,962 and 6,494,905 people from the 2015 statistics would experience depression in their lifetime. That truly shocked me.

This is a touchy subject, a taboo to some, yet I want to talk about it I want to touch upon these sensitive subjects to get rid of the stigma and fear that often causes us to avoid speaking about them, not only this but I want us to overcome the obstacle which is us not knowing what to say when talking about mental health or to anyone with a mental heal issue.

Many people worry about saying the wrong thing when it comes to mental illness, friends and loved ones may or may not want to talk about their mental health issues with you or you may not want to talk to them about yours but it is important that no matter which way round it is, you must know that you don't have to avoid the subject.

Online questionnaires about mental health are very popular amongst those who do believe they are suffering from some form of mental health issue, I myself have taken a few in my life time and they are said to be very inaccurate when it comes to what their results say. I must stress this, if you do believe you are suffering or just want to make sure, please confide in someone you truly trust and visit your doctor.

The truth is, we fear what goes on in our heads so we shy away from talking about it, we box it up and keep it all inside. But there is also the truth that mental health issues though at the time we see them as abnormal, they are not rare.

Lets talk about mental health.
