P.L.E.A.S.E - Adam Que

Synopsis:
P.L.E.A.S.E is a great introduction to the author and what emotionally inspires him to write. Thus the author landscapes the universal language of poetry; and how the power of words, the power of expression, and the power of artistry can connect us all. As well as making us simply feel. Asking that age old question, 'Is poetry and art dying?' Or does a piece of it always live in each and every one of us?
Review:
When Adam first contacted me about P.L.E.A.S.E I was truly interested about reading it as it would be the first of this type and genre that would feature properly on my blog. I must admit I was happy with how long the book was, it wasn't too much to struggle reading and it wasn't too short to be disappointed with not getting to know more.
As the synopsis says, the book let's us look into the things that emotionally inspires him and also get introduced to him properly.  I really enjoyed getting to know more about Adam and where his inspiration from his work comes from. Not only did I enjoy it but it was very interesting.
There are several works in this book and a selection of them were really able to make me think about myself and reflect on not only current, but also possible future, and past situations that I have experienced. I can say with an ounce of certainty that no matter who you are, a piece or several pieces of Adams work inside of this book will resonate with you.
This made reading the book easy and enjoyable as not only did I feel like I knew something about Adam but I also got to realise through his work that we had things in common or have had experienced similar things.
I given the book a strong 4 out of 5 just for the fact it's not really my genre of work but was still really enjoyable to read and was worth every minute I spent reading it.

A Bikers Co - Pilot

Brandon Turnbow, a motorcyclist was riding down to meet up with his father when he witnessed a man beating up a white tan terrier mix on the side of the road, before throwing it in the air and driving off. Thankfully Brandon turned around and got to the dog when it was only a few feet away from walking into the traffic.

Brandon approached the scared and alone dog slowly before wrapping him up in his leather jacket, helping him feel secure. he started his motorcycle and let it run for a while so the dog could become accustomed to the noise and vibration. Once the traffic died down and the dog had clamed Brandon continued to drive to meet his father who happened to also be on a motorcycle.

Both of the men then rode the miles back to Turnbow's house but at a four way stop, he turned to check up on the dog and said he was sitting in the seat "like he has rode all his life" The dog now stays with Brandon and is named Mr. Davidson.

Top Ten Tuesday - Ten Book I Enjoyed Recently That Werent My Typical Genre

I wanted to alter this TTT to be about 10 books I have read that weren't like my usual or typical reads.

Cry Silent Tears by Joe Peters. Although this genre always interests me, I don't read this genre a lot, I often get inquisitive about the lives of others but not so often that I will emotionally wreck myself by reading the books about their experiences.

This was a really enjoyable read and Kathryn Rogers has become an author I will continue to look for work from because I loved this book so much. However it wasn't like my usual reads and it was refreshing for it to be that way.
Although I speak some German and continue to work on it, I would never usually read a book that is about the war, I'm not entirely sure why, it interests me and I think that and my part of knowing German made this book a nice one for me to read.
Now this book was thoroughly gripping and interesting, it would never usually be a book id read if it hadn't of sounded like Tate from AMHS. Along with that reason I think I was inquisitive about the way it would end and I don't regret reading it even though it isn't my usual topic or genre of book.
I think Risen being a different genre to my usual reads kind of encouraged me to read it even more than I already wanted to after reading the synopsis. I have to admit it was a better book than I had imaged it was going to be.
I love zombies and such like there's no tomorrow and I also loved the World War Z film more than the book but I think I wanted to compare the book to film and well they were nowhere near. It was hard for me to read but from what I understood, I liked it.
Well this book was certainly enjoyable for the most part, it wasn't something I would of usually read but I would totally read it all over again.
This book was spectacular, and unusual which attracted me. I'm thankful for Chloe and her friend for buying me this book and The Spooks Apprentice for my 16th birthday because they were enjoyable to read and I cant wait to read more.
I don't regret getting this book when it was less than £1, as much as it wasn't my usual genre and the 2nd book in a trilogy it was very gripping and I love it enough to look into to getting the first and third book.

The Sookie Stackhouse Series, ive recently just finished number 5 out of the 11 I own and I'm in love with them but I'm usually not reading this genre either, I'm really up to reading more fantasy genre'd books in the future though.

Both Of Me - Jonathan Friesen

Synopsis:

From award winning author, Jonathan Friesen, a contemporary story dealing with mental illness and an unexpected friendship.

Elias Phinn copes with his painful reality by slipping into the imaginary realm of Warilia, a world that colors his every waking moment and feels more real than the actual one around him. When his carry-on luggage is switched with that of the beautiful and mysterious Clara, Elias becomes convinced that she is a Warilian diplomat’s daughter. But as the two become friends and their carefully constructed worlds begin to crack, Elias must save them both before everything falls apart.

Poignant, heartrending, and powerfully real, Both of Me is the latest young adult novel from award-winning author Jonathon Friesen. As it explores themes of friendship, mental illness, and self-discovery, this gripping novel will catch—and keep—the attention of teen readers.

Review:

I have to admit that when I asked for a copy to review and BookLog Bloggers said yes and provided me with a copy, I wasn't completely sure on what to expect from it, but at least the synopsis was promising. I went in with an open mind and I can say that it satisfied some of me but it never reached higher than that.

It was supposed to be just a simple plane journey, yet another escape to a foreign place where she could forget about her past and her attachments. Well that is until Clara finds herself seated next to a mysterious boy named Elias Phinn, a boy who seems to know some of her secrets that she has barely managed to admit to herself.

When her hand luggage is accidently switched with Elias' identical one, Clara uses the luggage tag to track down her things, but once at the address on the luggage tag she discovers there isn't just one Elias, but two: the odd, paranoid, artistic and often angry Elias that she met on the plane who lives in an imaginary world of his own called Salem; and the kind, sweet and soon irresistible Elias who greets her at the door that day, and who has no recollection of ever meeting Clara on the plane.

After she learns of his Dissociative Identity Disorder, and finds herself entangled in both of Elias's lives, Clara makes a single decision that could change all of them forever. She is going to find out what the Salem Elias knows about her and her past and even if it means having to play along with his otherworldly quest. Along the way she decides that she is going to find a way to keep the gentle Salem free Elias whom she is beginning to love, from ever disappearing and leaving her again.

I have to admit I never saw anything coming, every page turn held a mystery for me and I have to admit I was hooked by the first page. I laughed, wondered and cried. It gets a 4 out of 5 from me, it hit all the right spots but there was just something that didn't give me a reason to give it a 5/5. It was still a great read and I would truly recommend it to anyone who wants to read an entirely different kind of mystery and come to understand a little about
DID.

Henry Fraser's Story

So how do I even begin? Well this way I suppose, How did I come across Henry? Well most people know I'm a HUGE fan of Rugby and the Six Nations kicked off for another year on the 6th of February and on that day I had watched England win the Callcutter Cup against Scotland and had visited Owen Farrell's twitter page to see if he had tweeted anything about the game where there amongst his tweets he had retweeted a very unique photo on a tweet from Henry which I will discuss later on but from there on I tweeted out to Henry and asked for his permission to write this post to share with you all, and I'm not sure if you will when you read this but I cried.

Now we always talk of how a single moment can change the course of our life forever, well in Henry's case it did exactly that. Back in 2009 where Henry was only 17 years old, exactly the same age as I am now, he was on a holiday with friends enjoying it as it had been a nightmare holiday since the moment he reached the boarding gate to get on his flight to find his passport was 2 months out of date. After £200 well spent he finally got to enjoy the holiday with his friends.

It was the 5th day when he and his friends were on the beach enjoying the weather. He did something he had already done several times both on that holiday and in general when he had visited a beach but this time it changed his life. He ran and dove into the sea, as simple as that his life changed, the damaged had been done in a split second. He remembers hitting his head on the seabed having clearly misjudged the dive. He opened his eyes expecting to be out the water but, clearly he was not. He found himself face down floating in the water, his arms lifeless in front of him, not able to move anything from the neck down. he managed to turn his head hoping someone was going to be there to help him, thankfully a friend was there to ask if he was okay which he says no I'm not. Dragged through the water to the beach where by incredible luck two Ex rugby caches who had basic training helped him, who without them would result in Henry's condition could of been much more severe. They kept him calm and told him things would be okay, but clearly like anyone's natural feeling, he couldn't keep calm. He recalls looking up ad seeing his friends around him thinking what a great holiday he had ruined.

Time passes and the ambulance arrives where he was taken to a spot where he could be airlifted to a hospital in Libson, without friends or family in a foreign country in a time of need isn't comforting but thankfully Henry had support and care from an amazing paramedic in the helicopter who took amazing care of him all the way to the hospital. There, he had several x-rays of his neck, numbing cream was applied to either side of his head and before the cream could take effect, the doctor screwed a screw into either side of his head. it was going to be for a pulley system for them to hang weights off. This was because in a split second misjudged jump into the sea moment, Henry had severely dislocated his neck, nearly popping the fourth vertebrae completely out of alignment and the weights were there to stretch his neck and get the vertebrae to slide back in.

But there was a problem, before the accident, henry was very muscular and a very active sportsman, so unfortunately there was too much muscle in his neck and back. The doctor hung as much weight as he could off the clamp of three days until after that time, all of his vitals were dropping rapidly. He had more x-rays taken only for them to find out that after three days of traction, his neck had not moved not even a millimetre. The day before thankfully his parents flew out to come ad see him and be by his side spending 24 hours for nearly two and a half weeks by his bedside. The result was having to be rushed into the operating theatre where they went through the front of his neck to try and re align the vertebrae but unfortunately the first attempt was unsuccessful. After the first attempt he recalls being in a different state that before, he now had two large tubes in his mouth down his throat which was the ventilator which was now breathing for him as his lungs couldn't do it. A large tube into his nose and down into his stomach to feed him a special liquid supplement. T add to the situation he was hooked up to several bags of liquid as in the time he was in the Portuguese hospital he had contracted pneumonia and MRSA. The mix of illnesses and the pure panic meant his never slept as the pain and fear were too much and it was at this time he had many dark thoughts running through his head but looking back at it, he regrets ever thinking that way.

This is only the first part of Henry's story, the rest can be found here. When I first read Henry's story I was overwhelmed and emotional. I read the story over and over again, always ending the same way, smiling and crying at the same time, I was truly affected in the good way. Henry is now 24 and refusing to stop pushing himself. He now publicly talks about his accident and his journey to push himself. He also now creates mouth art (art/painting with the brush in his mouth.) and what great art pieces they are.

I'm forever going to think of Henry and his strength, he will continue to be an inspiring human being. Accept what is and Adapt. Henry god bless your heart.

Risen: First Book Of The Nameless Chronicle - M.T.Miller

Title: Risen: First Book Of The Nameless Chronicle
Author: M.T.Miller
Publication Date: January 13th 2016

Synopsis:

In the middle of nowhere a nameless individual rises from the dark. With barely any knowledge of apart from how to speak and how to kill, he finds himself in a world gone mad, Worse off, nearly everything that moves is out for his blood.

Not knowing where to turn, the wanderer traverses the desolate landscape of a ruined continent. Along his travels, his mind and body are pushed to their limits as he desperately tries to make sense of what had happened to the world, what he is, and why he exists.

For after foe meet their end and his hands, yet each kill only serves raise more questions. Is he even human? what has happened to the world? where does his path lead? The answer lies behind the blood stained horizon.

Review:

The book itself only took me around 3 hours to read in full and I can openly admit that it was 3 hours that I was truly never going to regret spending. Right from the outset the book had me griped. Full of action and detailed to perfection I quickly fell in love with Risen.

A nameless man who indeed rises from the dark with only two pieces of knowledge to his name is forced to protect himself from those who are after his blood by any means necessary. Killing his way into a danger free few hours never seems to last too long in this book. There is never a moment where what this man is doing becomes irrelevant.

On his journey to find answers, the man meets a homeless man and after gaining some information about where he is, befriends him and they spend the remaining story together, taking this journey for answers together.

Throughout the book we see them gain trust in each other, the homeless man speaking of his past life whilst the nameless wanderer speaks what little truth he knows.

Overall the book was gripping and perfectly written. Full of action and a perfect amount of gore and swearing for me. I can not wait to what M.T.Miller has in store next. I do recommend this book to anyone who likes a little blood and loves post apocalyptic action/ adventure with a few supernatural elements and pinches of black humour. This book is gory yet funny and has a rating of 5/5 from me.

Positive Headline - A Touching Tribute

We had to put my dog of 16 years down yesterday, but before we did we recreated our favourite photo with him

Its a well known fact that humans do outlive their dogs but one family faced the inevitability with grace and made sure the memories they had with this dog would live on forever via a very heart touching tribute.

A Reddit user who posts as Weezabeen, shared this image on the site last Thursday with the caption explaining it. "We had to put my dog of 16 years down yesterday, but before we did we recreated our (favourite) photo with him."

The photo showed above at the start of the post is the photos by comparison, but the sisters took this photo sporting near the same expressions and clothing and so far has been viewed over 1.8 million times.

There are other known moving tributes to pooches, like photographer Maria Sharp's choice of a photo memorial of her dog Chubby, during his final days as well as an anonymous puppy owner who left a box full of tennis balls on a beach so that other hounds could enjoy the toy that gave his 4 legged friend joy.

Veteran of a war no one quite understands. Praying, hoping. Waiting for whatever’s coming next.

Review

Daniel emailed me earlier this month asking for an honest review of Blackspoon. I was instantly interested in doing so and so on enough I found myself reading it, finishing it in two days. I don't want to spoil any part of the story for anyone if you're going to give it a read so I do apologise if the review is very short.

Blackspoon is a pulp crime thriller about a young RAF officer who is coerced into smuggling heroin back from the war in Afghanistan. I must say I was really caught up in the book when it kicked in, thoroughly enjoyed the fact that as soon as you read the first page, the story has kicked in and there is no hesitation in getting the story set up and started.

I cant really say what I was expecting from this book, I just don't know what I was expecting but with that said I can say I wasn't disappointed with it.

The main character Charlie smuggles un cut heroin back from Afghanistan after the deal was set up by military police who gained him safe passage. Once the deal is done and the story begins to unravel he becomes understandably paranoid.

I have to say I wasn't expecting several things that happened in the book, I guess I was kind of expecting the story to go smoothly and well I was clearly extremely stupid to think that would happen. The story is very face paced but as the reader you'll always be able to understand what's going on even if you do get momentarily confused like I did on maybe 2 occasions (that was mostly because I was so into finding out everything will happen that I was reading it very quickly.)

I must say that I would recommend it to anyone who likes very fast paced books and is able to keep up with that sort of thing. also a 4/5 overall and a really great read even though its not in the genre i would usually read. The cover of the book I've seen is quite clever and I actually love it.

Lets Talk About Mental Health

"4-10% of people in England will experience depression in their lifetime." To put that into perspective, England has a population of around 64,949,051 according to statistics from 2015. That means, based upon that figure between 2,597,962 and 6,494,905 people from the 2015 statistics would experience depression in their lifetime. That truly shocked me.

This is a touchy subject, a taboo to some, yet I want to talk about it I want to touch upon these sensitive subjects to get rid of the stigma and fear that often causes us to avoid speaking about them, not only this but I want us to overcome the obstacle which is us not knowing what to say when talking about mental health or to anyone with a mental heal issue.

Many people worry about saying the wrong thing when it comes to mental illness, friends and loved ones may or may not want to talk about their mental health issues with you or you may not want to talk to them about yours but it is important that no matter which way round it is, you must know that you don't have to avoid the subject.

Online questionnaires about mental health are very popular amongst those who do believe they are suffering from some form of mental health issue, I myself have taken a few in my life time and they are said to be very inaccurate when it comes to what their results say. I must stress this, if you do believe you are suffering or just want to make sure, please confide in someone you truly trust and visit your doctor.

The truth is, we fear what goes on in our heads so we shy away from talking about it, we box it up and keep it all inside. But there is also the truth that mental health issues though at the time we see them as abnormal, they are not rare.

Lets talk about mental health.
